Comb Binding

Plastic Comb Binding offers a quality booklet finish and is a fast and economical document finishing option.

A rigid plastic comb is inserted into rectangular holes punched along the edge of paper and stock then closed, keeping the document pages in place. Plastic combs come in a variety of sizes to accommodate books of varying thicknesses. The more pages the book has, the larger the comb must be for proper function and aesthetics.

Benefits

Plastic Comb Binding is an affordable choice and is great for documents that may need adding to later as the plastic combs can be opened and new pages easily added. The pages can be viewed side-by-side on a flat surface for ease of reading but will not rotate 360 degrees around the spine. Pages flip with little resistance and stay put without being continually held open to view the contents. Comb Binding can accommodate low or high page counts and inserts, including dividers or index tabs made from lighter cardstock.

This is a popular choice for documents produced by schools, libraries, and offices, including reports, workbooks, journals, catalogues, brochures, instructional books (e.g., training guides, course notes), notebooks and diaries. The natural flex of a plastic comb makes this option suitable for mailing documents.

Specifications

Twin Loop can bind documents from A4 portrait or landscape (holes punched on short or long edge) up to A3 portrait (holes punched on the short edge) for sheets up to 48mm thick (410 sheets / 80gsm) accommodating tabs, pockets, covers and backing boards.

When setting out your pages, it is good practice to keep all text or images at least 10mm away from the binding edge to not cut into when the holes are punched into the pages.

Twin Loop will insert a black comb into all Comb Binding projects. If you have a special request, please let us know.
