Laminating

Lamination, also known as encapsulation, is the process of bonding a clear gloss or matt protective coating onto paper or stock to increase durability and prolong the document's life. In the printing world, lamination can be applied by heat or adhesion. Twin Loop uses heat for a stronger, more durable bond.

Laminate is applied to both sides of a sheet allowing for a small, sealed edge to ensure full encasement inside the plastic film for protection from stains, tears, moisture, and many other elements that can damage or destroy the sheet altogether.

The thickness of the laminate required depends on the environment it will be used in and the desired rigidity.

Benefits

Lamination is used in a wide variety of print projects. It is highly recommended for documents constantly being handled, including menus, price lists, maps, reusable tags, educational materials, bookmarks, membership cards and signs of all types such as safety signs and operating instructions. Lamination adds strength and stiffness to a printed piece with the added benefit of making colours appear more vibrant.

Specifications

There is no minimum quantity required, and laminate is available in 80, 100 or 125-micron thickness.

Laminate is available in clear matt or gloss finish. Gloss laminating adds a high silk sheen to your document. Matt laminating forms a protective coating but without the high shine impact of Gloss laminating. If your laminate sheet is being used outside, you may consider using a matt finish to minimize reflection.
